By Deborah Ross

Hernias are very common diseases that are caused by organs pushing through openings because of weakened muscle or tissue. These muscles and tissues are usually responsible for maintaining the organ in place. For example, a hernia may happen when intestines break through abdominal walls due weakening caused to the walls by various factors. It is typical for hernias to happen in abdomens. Besides abdomens, they also occur around belly buttons, groin area, and upper thighs. When one needs experts in Hernia Valley Stream NY offers the perfect location to visit.

Many different kinds of hernias occur today and they are named depending on which part of the body they occur. Hernias are usually not life threatening conditions immediately after diagnosis. However, they can become life threatening after some time as they worsen. Treatment should be sought immediately the condition is noticed.

Just to mention a few, Hiatal, inguinal, incisional, and umbilical are the most common form of hernias. Today, Unguinal hernias are the ones that occur the most of all hernias. All the victims of this condition, about 70 percent ail from unguinal hernias. Unguinal hernias occur when the intestines, through a weak spot in the wall or tissue, get their way into unguinal canal. This condition is more common in men than women.

Hiatal hernias condition occurs when the stomach breaks away through the diaphragm, getting into chest cavity. Diaphragm is a tissue that creates the boundary between the organs in the chest and the abdomen. The disease is common among the people of 50 plus years old. The disease can also affect children if the child is born with a congenital birth defect. However, it is not common among children.

Umbilical hernias are not similar to hiatal hernias because they develop in children in most cases. This condition happens as a result of intestines bulging through abdominal walls near the belly button. As a child cries, one can clearly see the protrusion. In normal cases, the hernia goes away without treatment after some time. The disappearance of the bulge is caused by the strengthening of abdominal muscles as the child grows older. The strengthened muscles then push the intestines back.

Umbilical hernias usually disappear when the child attains the age of one year. In rare cases, the condition may persist in a child beyond the age of one year. When that happens, it is important to seek immediate medical assistance. In such cases, surgery is usually performed on the child to correct the defect.

Incisional hernia as the name suggest develop at the site of a previous surgery. This is because of the weakness in muscles after surgery. This weakness in muscle usually causes intestines to easily push through. This variety of hernias is more commonly observed in old and overweight people who do not partake in exercise after surgery.

Certain people are usually predisposed to contracting the various kinds of hernias because of specific factors. Some of the factors include constipation, diarrhea, persistent coughing and sneezing, smoking, surgery, obesity, and poor nutrition. Spending too much time lifting heavy weights can also lead to this condition. These factors usually cause this disease by weakening muscles in the abdominal region.
