By Gwen Lowe

In past days, they used to craft in order to make impressions on stamps. They applied the paper embossing method which is still used today. It is commonly used since raises the letters being pressed on the surface, and they can easily be seen. Apart from this, it is used to make pictures more elevated in the papers surface. This is possible by use of foil embossing dies.

Dies are made of many materials, but the most common are magnesium, copper and brass. The material that is to be embossed will determine the material that will be used to make the dies so that they can be compatible. Of course, there will be other factors to consider, and so one should get all the information they need before purchasing dies so that they can choose the most appropriate.

There are various ways of stamping and each of them has its own benefits and shortcomings. To start with, you can use the blind embossing technique. It does not require the use of either foils or ink to high-point the imprinted area. Someone will only see that part if he observes the paper closely and keenly. In most instances, it is completed on hard papers so that it has a distinctive appearance.

Registered embossing, on the other hand, is a form of imagery that imitates what has been decorated by ink or foils on the surface. A combination emboss is one which will use impressing and foils stamping on the same piece of paper to produce a unique effect. This makes it very popular because it is complex and mostly not forgeable since it is hard to know what has been done.

Another process used to emboss your art piece includes glazing, scorching and pastelling. When used, they make the top side show appealing looks. To finish off the work, people apply ink with nugget finishes. This makes the work beautiful to the naked eye. This works better for other products like stamps or wrappers made of paper customized to the clients needs. This art work works better for decoration papers, and other materials used for other jobs and not for beautification.

Another type is called foils emboss. This uses hot die applied on decorated surfaces. It also uses foils. The results are stunning as they look shinny. The eye-catching colors create peoples attention that flickers. Examples of products which imprinted using this method include pens, pencils, photographs, covers used to protect books and handkerchiefs. The foils used gives glittering metallic appearances that flicker. They also hold in place for long. However, this might fall off if it comes in contact with water.

If you do not like the shiny surfaces, you can opt for the pastel foils. Normally, it has totally opaque tints and lacks the glossy effect. For the white one, when it is pressed on white paper, it provides a refined brand which is outstanding.

When you are looking for these dies, you need to choose those that will give a deeper impression so they must be highly raised. Pneumatic machines can be used instead of manual ones when one is doing embosses that are high in volume to reduce fatigue.
