Great Advice About Public Speaking That Anyone Can Easily Follow

By Tara Dawson

Being able to speak in public is a great skill to have. The more you know about speaking in front of an audience, the more at ease you will become. Keep reading and learn how you can become a better speaker.

Your audience will not remain attentive unless you work to keep them listening. You must work hard to get their attention and even harder to keep it. You are performing for them, and speaking confidently to win them over is key to achieving the desired results.

Being a good public speaker requires lots of preparation. Understand exactly what you are planning to say. Make sure you can back up your point of view with facts. Take notes on the topic. Practice the speech so that you could say it in your sleep. Being prepared will make you confident when you step up to the podium.

Learn the material the best you can. You should even know facts and jokes about the topic of your speech. If you have time, you can add in some of these things throughout your speech as needed. Also use them to reinforce your speech in questions and answer sessions or follow up conversations.

Once you have your speech memorized, repeat it often. Speaking it out loud often will allow you to make tweaks as you see the need. Also, practice your breathing and pace. Make sure there are pauses between key points so that people can react with applause. If at all possible, you should practice giving your speech using the equipment that will be used.

Have a complete comprehension of your topic before making your speech. Do some broad research that gives you all sides of the topic at hand. Develop your points carefully and prepare yourself with notes you can follow. Being prepared will help when you have to answer questions from the audience.

You may want to consider using a story to engage your audience. Make sure to outline your speech. A well-rounded story will have the audience know when you begin and when it ends. Be sure you use true life events in order to sound really authentic.

Practice your speech as much as you possibly can. Practice before a mirror or even video yourself so that you see where you can improve. Practicing before loved ones is an ideal method since they can offer the best criticism.

Now you can see you don't have to be intimidated by public speaking. Use the advice you read here. The more you practice, the higher your confidence will be. Your fears can be conquered, if you believe that you can do this.
