How To Install Outdoor Video Surveillance

By Grace Rivas

Outdoor video surveillance is a very important security measure that should be used by everybody who cares about their safety. They also serve as important evidence in criminal cases as they record everything as it happens. The most important thing that you should ensure is that you perform the installation correctly so that you do not have to incur any additional costs in the future.

They should have done such installation previously in other situations. This way, you are sure that they know what they are doing and they will do a perfect job. Get recommendations from people who have had theirs installed before. You can inspect the work that was done and if you like it, then you ask for contact information to get in touch with the expert. Arrange to meet and come up with a plan for the project.

Look for a convenient location that overlooks a large space in your compound or the street. Get a spot right under the roof at the point where it meets the walls. This will provide a nice vantage point as it will be well hidden thus cannot be easily spotted by any intruders. Also, it will be protected from harsh weather condition especially if it is not the waterproof kind of equipment.

The location should be at an open place where you can have a full view of all the surroundings. Ensure that there are no tall trees or buildings in the area so that the camera can take videos of things that happen at a far distance. This will help you get the most surveillance footage even from far away.

The best kind of cameras are those that have an automatic zoom and can also provide a 360-degree view. This will ensure that you capture all the elements within a large radius from one point. Also, mount the equipment firmly so that you do not get blurred or distorted images and videos.

If you are installing a wired camera, you need to fix wires in a safe way to prevent them from getting spoilt. The best thing to do is to nail them on wooden boards then attach them to the walls appropriately. This will also ensure that you do not cause damage to your walls by drilling many holes into them. If you happen to have a space between the roof and the walls, then you can use that space to pass the cables from inside the house.

Apply for uninterrupted power and internet connections in the case of a wireless camera. This is because you need the camera to relay all the footage to the screen monitors to your computers and PDAs. These support equipment should be well kept and taken care of as well so that all the components can work for the intended purpose.

Store all the important footage from outdoor video surveillance in a safe place. It should only be accessible to people who have the passwords to the safety lock. This will prevent any interference with the information as they may alter it thus make it unreliable.
